Mr Loja's DBQ Tips....
- 1 DBQ Question in 60 Minutes
- 15 Minutes of Planning the essay/40 Minutes to write
- 25% of your overall grade
- If you score at least a 3 on the DBQ. You’re averaging a 3…
- Periods 3-8 (1754-1980)
- DBQ is not designed to see what a good writer you are, but rather if you’re a good HISTORIAN…
- (I.E: can you make a historical argument…)
- Outside examples and connect your argument to broader historical events
- Think: Why is this an important story to tell?
- Thesis, Thesis, Thesis
- HIPP...(Historical Context, Intended Audience, POV, and Purpose)
- The key is to make a solid historical argument…CLEAR, CONCISE, ARGUMENT!
- Outside examples beyond the documents….Don’t name drop, thoroughly explain…
- Connect to other historical points/events (synthesis-analysis & reasoning!!!)
- Account for the individual documents audience and/or bias
- Don’t just mention an example; you have to connect the outside example to the thesis!!
